San Diego Magazine

About

As food critic for San Diego Magazine, Troy eats at anywhere between three and 25 restaurants a week. His strict “two bite rule” has kept him alive. The San Diego native is an award-winning writer, TV host, author, and humorist. He parlayed a poetry degree into a 10-year gig as a successful music journalist (Rolling Stone, Spin, etc.) before being named food critic for Modern Luxury Publishing in 2008. By 2010 his food writing won the highest journalism awards in Southern California, and Food Network tapped him to write and host the travel series, Crave. Currently he’s an anchor judge on Food Network’s prime-time series, Guy’s Grocery Games with Guy Fieri, co-hosts and writes the series Campus Eats on Big Ten Network, and performs his live cooking demo, “Troy’s A Hack,” at festivals.
