Woof’n Rose winemaker, vineyard operator, and co-proprietor Stephen (Steve) Kahle, is a retired Electrical and Software Engineer. From Columbia Missouri, near Herman Missouri the original epicenter of American winemaking in the 19th century he remembers touring ‘mushroom’ caves originally used for aging the area’s wines. Steve received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri and Master of Science in Computer Science from Kansas State University. He and wife Marilyn planted their first grapes in 1995, vines still producing today. Woof’n Rose Winery, established in 2007, has small annual production, around 300 cases, of the six Bordeaux varietals, and of Grenache Noir with small lots of Alicante Bouschet and Montepulciano, all estate grown. Steve serves as the education chair with the San Diego County Vintners Association, and as the Southern California region director to the Wine Institute.
