MCV Wines
About
Matt Villard is a Winemaker, Consulting Winemaker and Winery owner in California’s Central Coast. He began working in the wine industry in 2007. He opened his own winery, MCV Wines, in 2011 and began consulting in 2016. Matt specializes in Petite Sirah and unique blends. Matt works hard to make sure his wines are elegant and rich.
With his philosophy of “let the wine speak for itself,” Matt tries to keep his labels simple, clean and elegant so that people will appreciate the wine, not the package. This plays perfectly to Red, White and Pink which are a fairly self-descriptive naming of his every day, approachable line of wines. For his children, Matt will create dessert wines in the port style from 100% Petite Sirah that he will name after them (CFV for Chris and JMV for Jake), which he wants to age and present to them on their 21st birthdays.
Over the years, Matt’s wines have been highly rated. He received at least one 90+ score every vintage he has ever made for MCV, usually most of his wines receive 90+, from a distinguished reviewer. Matt was interviewed and featured in several major wine magazines, including Wine Enthusiast and Vintages.
Looking to the future, Matt hopes to get his own vineyards established, create long term contracts with vineyards he currently buys from, and expand MCV by increasing his wine club membership. Matt’s goal is for MCV stay a small family-owned, boutique winery.
