Eo and JuMi Pitiwartarlai, chef-owners of Sovereign Modern Thai, were born in Bangkok, Thailand, with roots tracing back to China, where their grandparents settled during World War II. Their grandmother’s tenure in the Royal palace kitchen instilled a deep love for cooking in them from a young age. After a family tragedy, Eo stayed with their grandmother, learning traditional Thai and Chinese cooking before moving to the US. Meanwhile, JuMi pursued her culinary passion in Singapore, specializing in Southeast Asian cuisine. Today, they blend their heritage and culinary expertise at Sovereign Modern Thai, cooking with the same love and dedication their grandmother instilled in them.
