About

Over 36 years ago, Alex Guarachi came to the United  States  from Chile on a soccer scholarship. When an injury shattered his athletic dreams, he went back to his roots for inspiration and pursued his other passion – wine. Living in the heart of California wine country, Alex jumped at an opportunity to fill the gap and educate American consumers on the amazing wines of his home countryland.

Starting in a garage and performing every task, Alex built his wine import company, Guarachi Wine Partners, pioneers of South American wines. Through the years, Guarachi Wine Partners has achieved numerous accolades including Importer of the Year by Wine Enthusiast magazine, Wine Spectator Top 100s and Wine Enthusiast Wine Star Awards.

In 2007, Alex launched his own label, Guarachi Family Wines, and released the first vintage made by revered winemaker Paul Hobbs. In 2014, Alex purchased Sun Chase Vineyard at the top of Petaluma Gap in Sonoma Coast and later Meadowrock Vineyard at the top of Atlas Peak and Fern Creek near Salem, Oregon. In 2016, Alex hired Julian Gonzales, formerly of Hobbs Consulting, as his chief winemaker for Guarachi Family Wines.
