Jake's Del Mar
San Diego native, Duvinh Ta, has spent most of his working life exploring the culinary world. After starting his college education studying to be an aerospace engineer, Duvinh decided to follow his passion for food & people and initiated his culinary training with a degree from the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. As a new graduate he honed his skills under the direction of Chef Scott Giambastiani at Viognier in the Bay Area.
From there Duvinh joined the T S Restaurants family and trained under Hawaii Regional Cuisine Founder, Peter Merriman, at Hula Grill Kaanapali on Maui and Certified Executive Chef, Scott McGill . San Diego was calling Duvinh home and he joined the team at Jake’s Del Mar in 2005. Working closely under the direction of Chef Dustin Anselm, Duvinh excelled at Jake’s and was promoted to Executive Chef in June 2013.
Duvinh describes the cuisine at Jake’s as new American cooking. The bounty of the Pacific Ocean and fresh, seasonal products provide the inspiration for updating classic preparations of fresh fish, shellfish and premium meats. The menu showcases clean, eclectic flavors and local, sustainable products. The restaurant’s beachside location and Duvinh’s love of the active San Diego lifestyle drives him to seek delicious but healthy ingredients.
Duvinh is married and a new father. When he is not cooking at Jake’s he enjoys hiking, diving and getting together for Sunday dinners with friends and family. And to satisfy his huge sweet tooth, Duvinh hits the road with his family, always on the lookout for new desserts and the best beef jerky.
