Chef Ray Agishi has been working as a sushi chef throughout California and San Diego for the past 20 years. He began his career during high school working at YAMA SUSHI BAR AND ROBATA GRILL in North Lake Tahoe. After moving to San Diego, he has worked at many Japanese restaurants in the area including BENNIHANA in Mission Valley with the legendary Chef Junichi Fukushima. Chef Ray has been an innovative sushi chef for Certified Master Chef Nobu Matsuhisa at the NOBU San Diego restaurant in the Gaslamp District adjacent to the Convention Center. Since the opening day at NOBU SD, Chef Ray has been responsible for consistently preparing high quality food in a fast paced environment. Currently he is the chef/owner of IZAKAYA PACIFIC BEACH located on Garnet Avenue and Mission Boulevard for the past two years. Chef Ray’s modern take on Japanese Cuisine has been voted Top 5 Best Japanese Restaurants in San Diego two years in a row and Best Sushi from City Beat Magazine in 2016.
