About

Born in Guaymas, Sonora with a great interest in cooking, she decided to move to Ensenada where she studied and graduated from the Autonomous University of Baja California with a degree in gastronomy. To start her professional career as part of the second generation of cooks in the gastronomic scene of Baja California.

After accumulating experiences in the kitchen, in 2015 she joined TrasLomita restaurant, from Vinícola La Lomita, to later become the head chef.

In 2019, seeking to provide a different experience in Valle, opens her new restaurant project Lunario, where it offers two tasting menu options that changes every month, incorporating seasonal and local ingredients.

In her short but prolific career, Sheyla has earned the respect of the press and colleagues. Her cuisine has earned mentions by the American Culinary Institute (CIA), Conde Nast, Food & Wine and the New York Times, among others.

In her words: “I cook things that I like to eat, I always try to find fresh ingredients and use them in unusual preparations, doing my best to highlight and respect their original flavor. Mexican ingredients always predominate in my dishes”

At 32 years old, Sheyla Alvarado represents the present and, above all, the future of Baja California cuisine.
