Attendees will learn how we attack the problem of composing a coherent blend from disparate (but related) Rhône varietal grapes, not with the idea of annually producing a consistent blend, but on building upon the strengths of the differing varieties as they present themselves. I will talk about what each element brings to a blend, as well as the specific attributes that differing regimes of élevage (cellaring) brings to the wine as it develops. (The opportunity to taste precisely the same wine subject to differing types of cellaring regimes will be particularly relevant to winemaking professionals). Attendees might learn a new vocabulary in talking about New World wines.
